Science progresses incrementally. Sharing research results and publishing often is imperative.
Yet, as if putting a complex world of ideas and observations into a limited number of words were not challenging itself, many researchers have to do this in a language that is not their own – normally English, the current lingua franca of science. Scientific journals, of course, have their proofreaders, but many scientists want their papers to be clearly written before being sent out. This is especially important when a researcher is thinking about an idea in one language and trying to put it in writing in another. The latter situation can result not only in clumsily written text but also in text with ambiguous meaning.
To offset this problem, it is of great value to have an editor and proofreader who can not only correct the grammar, spelling and stylistic errors but who will also check with the author regarding the meaning of potentially problematically written sentences. In this way, ambiguities or misinterpretation can be avoided. We hope that our services will cater well to this need of some researchers and that this will contribute to making the writing and publishing process smoother and more pleasant.
Copyediting
Copyediting involves reviewing a document thoroughly for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and correct tense of verbs. It also involves checking sentence structure, word choice, paragraph length and flow and clarity within the overall content. Depending on their experience and skill level, editing content written by a second language speaker can take a lot more effort and time and, occasionally, necessitate, back-and-forth communication between the author and the editor.
Proofreading

Proofreading is a final check of spelling, grammar, and typos on a draft that has already been edited.

Formatting

As part of my copy editing service I can also format a manuscript, book or other document following specific style guides, such as the Chicago Manual, Associated Press (AP), APA style, and others.

Partial translations
​
In certain cases I can help the clients with translating part of their text from Italian, Croatian or Serbian into English. These translations have to pertain to academic communication, correspondence and publication.

ABOUT ME
My name is Tamara Jonjic Glazener and I have always been passionate about science. In 2010 I earned a a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence, entitled “Tensions between knowledge sharing and knowledge appropriation in biomedicine: Public science strategies toward the patentability of research tools”.
I studied at the University of Zagreb, where I received a BA in English and Italian language and literature, at the University of Sussex, where I received an MA degree with distinction in European Studies, at the European University Institute in Florence, where I received a PhD in social and political sciences and at the University of California at Berkeley, where I was a visiting scholar at the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economies.
English has been my primary language of study and work for the last two decades. Some of my work experiences include being a Program assistant in the Department of European Integration at the Ministry of Science and Technology of Croatia, a Research assistant at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence and Faculty member of the Master of Arts in Political Science program with a concentration in European Union Policy Studies at the James Madison University, Florence, Italy. Beside my study and work experiences in English, the latter has been the language of my personal life since my husband and children are US citizens.
